VII. Xak III: The Eternal Recurrence (Spoilers)
It all starts on night during a fierce storm when Latok and Mother a wounded man by the name of Tipero arrives at the Kart home in Fearless village. He was sent by Elmina, the princess of Farland Kingdom to seek out help at any cost. Farland castle is currently under attack by demons. Latok equips his armour and the Xak sword and heads out for the kingdom of Farland.
Meanwhile Zomu Dizae, the general of the demon army invasion has advanced his forces into the inner sanctum of Farland castle and have made their way to the thone room. The Farland soldiers are no match for him and the Farland king is killed in a duel with Zomu Dizae. Before the king dies he curses having been unable to use the power of an ancient sword, Agato Daimon which had only recently dissapeared from the castle. Zau Melz, a demon with lizard-like features and one of Dizae's leutenents requests to have the Farland King's body hung on the castle wall to break the morale of the remaining Farland forces while keeping the head as a trophy. Nezo Gineas, another of Dizae's demon officers enters the room bringing with him Princess Elmina. Elmina sees her father has been killed and refuses to be taken as a prisoner and Zau Melz explains that if that is her wish, he would be happy to oblige as he severs her head from her body. He tells Nezo Gineas to take the corpses of the king and princess and hang them on the castle wall. At this moment, the Necromancer appears stating that as his namesake implies, he has risen from the dead. He performs a dark magic on the desceased Farland soldiers turning them into zombies to be used in the service of the demons.
Latok arrives at the Wavis/Farland Alliance base and speaks with General Beluga of the Wavis army and Commander Loriza of the Farland Surprise Attack force. Together they discuss a mounted strike to break through the demon forces in order to have a chance of entering the castle on foot. They tell Latok that if he would do the honor of accompanying them in battle , the presence of the Duel Knight will surely boost the morale of the troops in the next attack wave. Latok finds Fell Bow and Horn Ashtar at the camp caring for the injured troops and entertaining them with folklore songs. Fell explains that she came to repay her services to the Wavis army since she had received so much support after her brother, Wavis Commander Nill Bow was killed in action. Horn, having fallen in love with Fell, he had been travelling with her ever since they had first met in Banuwa village two years prior.
The time arrives for the Farland/Wavis soldiers to advance on the demon army at Farland castle. Many troops on either side die in battle. Latok makes his way past the demons into the castle courtyard where he discovers that the demons have built a wooden barricade to prevent entry to the castle main entrance. Latok makes his way to higher ground and jumps over the barricade landing on the other side and head into the castle. Eventually after defeating several demons and zombies and a bit of puzzle solving in the castle sewer system, he is able to make his way to a balcony overlooking the castle courtyard. There he finds a man with his sword drawn yelling at a demon to show himself. The demon appears in a flash of brilliant light slaying the man's two bodygaurds and appears to him as a flying demon. The demon introduces himself as Nezo Gineas and throws the remains of the princess and king against the side of the castle wall and with some sort of disc-like throwing blade cuts them apart splattering them all over the castle grounds below as to make mockery of the humans feeble attempts against the demons. Latok rushes to aid the man and together they fight Nezo Gineas killing him in combat. After the battle the main introduces himself to Latok as Zamhan of the Farland Imperial Guard and tells him that fortunately they were able to at least partially avenge their deaths by killing one of the demon officers. Zamhan joins Latok's party and enter a chamber leading to the throne room. Upon entering Zamhan and Latok watch as several of the Farland soldiers that were killed in action are reanimated and turn into zombies. Zamhan tells Latok that many of these zombies were once his old comrades in the imperial guard and that it is his duty to put them to rest. With that Zamhan engages them in combat and tells Latok that he'll buy some time for him to make his way to the throne room. Latok enters the throne room and finds Zau Melz standing next to the severed heads of King Farland and Princess Elmina. Zau Melz turns to him telling Latok that the head of a Duel Knight will make a fine addition to his collection. After a fierce battle Zau Melz is defeated and grasping what life he has left he tells Latok that even though he may have lost the battle the grand plan of the demons remains uncompromised. He laughes telling Latok that he cannot hope to defeat them all by themselves and as long as they have the "Gate", he can clearly see General Zomu Dizae taking Latok's head personally. With that Zau Melz uses what strength he has left to cut off his own head. Zamhan enters and carefully preserves the the remains of the king and princess for their funeral. Zamhan and Latok spot a light coming from an additional room connected to the throne room and proceed through it. Inside the room they notice a strange artifact sustaining some kind of portal surrounded by demon guards. Latok and Zamhan make short work of the demons, destroy the artifact and return to the Wavis/Farland Alliance camp.
After a short briefing with General Beluga, he asks Latok if he would accompany him to deliver the battle report to King Arband Wavis personally. Latok agrees to accompany Beluga and together they travel to Wavis. The King welcomes Latok and thanks him for everything he has done in the service of Wavis and the world of Xak as this is the first time they have ever met face to face. King Wavis tells Latok that there is a girl here to see him as he gestures toward Pixie who flies over to Latok. Latok and Pixie speak for awhile and she tells Latok that she had changed back to her original faerie form due to the sudden recent influx of power coming from the demon world of Zekisis. Latok asks the King if had ever heard of something called the Gate before as it was uttered by one of Zomu Dizae's demon officers just before his death. The King tells him that he has heard about it, however he has his royal court magician explain it further. The magician explains that the Gate refers back to the Ancient War of Sealing when the old gods drove the demons into Zekisis before splitting the world apart. The gate was a relic developed during the war that was used as a large scale magical teleportation device. The magician advices Latok to seek out a man by the name of Gahoe who resides in a tower atop the cliffs of Mt. Ginganul. Apparently Gahoe is well versed in the knowledge of ancient magical relics and artifacts including the Xak Dipoles and would possibly know more about the Gate. Latok thanks the King and leaves the throne room. Before he sets out for Mt. Ginganul Latok decides to have a look around Wavis castle. As he speaks with several of the soldiers and nobles within he learns that there have been reports of demon attacks in other towns and villages such as Galoa and the Magic City of Mirsia. Also, he hear rumors of the appearance of a group of bandits dubbed the Storm Mercenaries led by a man calling himself Demon Knight. This Demon Knight, also referred to as Lucifer Knight and Tescapolitoca and his mercenary group's actions are shrouded in mystery as there have been several reports of the group stealing and searching for ancient magical artifacts.
After a look around the castle Latok makes his way outside into the village of Wavis where all of a sudden his pet, Rabbie runs off toward a blue-haired girl sitting next to a fountain. The girl recognizes the rabbit immediately and it turns out to be Fray, who had been looking for Latok once again to perhaps join him on his adventure. After a bit of petty quabling between Pixie and Fray, Fray decides to accompany them to Mt Ginganul and they make way for Gahoe's Tower.
After some mountain climbing, Latok and his party reach the base of Gahoe's tower. As curious as ever, Fray runs ahead of the group and taps on a statue of a golum admiring the sculpted work when the golum wakes up and summons several smaller golums that arrive on the scene. Each of the smaller golums pick Latok, Fray and Pixie up and carry them to the top of the tower by force where they are released directly infront of a much larger looking golum. The large golum introduces himself as the one in the same Gahoe they have been looking for and he welcomes them to his home. Latok explains why they have come and asks Gahoe about the Gate. Gahoe tells him that the full name of the artifact is the "Gate of No Return" and it was something that the mages used during the War of Sealing to fight off the demons. This artifact was used to send large armies into battle to a particular location, however it could only send them through and could not be used to send them back. Those who used it were prepared for death when they made the choice to step through the gate. Gahoe continues telling him that it is possible that the invading demon army may now be using the gate to transfer their armies from the world of Zekisis into Xak, but it is complicated to master and use efficiently. Gahoe pauses and tells Latok that even though he is concerned about the gate, the matter should be the least of his concern at the moment as there is something else going on, something greater at stake, but knowing it would mean knowing the very secret of what Xak really is. Gahoe commences with a prayer ceremony for the ancient gods in order to shed some light on the subject. He tells Latok that according to a source known as the << Necronomicon >>, one must possess a great jewel to enter the Land of Darkness, the "forbidden world" and open the gate, known as the "Native Gate". This gate is located within the Land of Darkness and with a Xak Dipole, one can pass through the gate to enter the world of Zekisis and Oceanity, the faerie world. Pixie tells Latok that it was through this power that she was originally able to pass through into the world of Xak from Oceanity. Gahoe tells them that they should make their way to the nearby town of Galoa to see about securing a ship so that they can travel South for forty days and forty nights until they reach this forbidden land of darkness, a place that still remains very much an unknown territory to the even the Kingdom of Wavis. After speaking with Gahoe for awhile he tells them that through the medium of his staff, the Staff of Testamant, he can control the actions of the golums and he demonstrates by summoning a particular golum by the name of Pumpkinhead, a short stouty looking golum wearing a cape. He send Pumpkin head to fix some tea for his guests. Gahoe explains that this staff is quite powerful but is inherently evil and is planning on handing it over to Mill Gerard of Mirsia. He continues on with more information, now about the aforementioned leader of the demon invasion army, Zomu Dizae. Dizae is one of three demon generals to be a successor of the original Demonlord Zekishis. However, through Latok's efforts, two of these generals Zemu Badu and Zamu Gospel have met their end with Dizae being the last as well as the strongest of them all. After some time passes, Gahoe becomes impatient with the amount of time it is taking Pumpkinhead to bring out the tea and asks Latok if he wouldn't mind checking on him.
Latok tells Gahoe he will and finds Pumpkinhead busy with something in the pantry and offers to help the small golum get what he needs. All of a sudden Latok hear a scream coming from Fray and he returns to Gahoe's room to find that several uninvited visitors have appeared and are holing Gahoe and Fray hostage. It turns out to be the Storm Mercenaries group that Latok had heard rumors of at Wavis led by the infamous Demon Knight. One of the mercenaries, Sunaga, in the likeness of a white-leopard like man tells Gahoe that they now possess a relic known as the "Dokuro Flag" and tells Gahoe that they have come for the Staff of Testament as he cuts through some of Gahoe's golums with a single attack from his sword, the Agato Daimon that was missing from the Farland Kingdom just before the demon's attack. Another demon, by the name of Yunker is holding Fray hostage and telLS Gahoe to make a choice between saving the girl's life or handing over the staff. Gahoe hands the staff over and Yunker tells him that he has made the right choice. Latok shouts out to the group that he cannot allow this to happen. Yunker sees the Xak Sword and tells him that the deal has changed and that they'll be taking the Xak Sword as well. The Xak Sword tells Latok to go ahead with the trade in order to save Fray's life. Latok steps closer to the group and places the sword vertically in the ground. Yunker throws Fray over to Latok and walks over to pull the sword out when he gets shocked and cannot pull it out. Latok tells Yunker that only a Duel Knight can weild the sword. Still undergoing a shock the Xak Sword almost destroying Yunker in the process, Demon Knight steps forward stoping pushing Yunker out of the way and tells him to leave his sight out of such a disgusting display. The Demon Knight approaches the sword and is able to pull it out of the ground with ease and take hold of it. Demon Knight tells Latok and the Xak Sword that he will be its new master. Continuing he tells Latok that he will not take his life, but rather make him live in shame. Together Demon Knight and the Storm Mercenaries teleport out of the tower. Some time passes and eventually Latok and Fray regain their senses from the overwhelming power of Demon Knight and his group. Gahoe tells them that the theft of the Staff of Testament is unfortunate as it was the only way he could control and keep the golums in line. Now it seems that many of the golums in the tower have been activated by the Storm Mercenaries to go berserk and attack anyone who comes within contact of them. He advises Latok to use caution when exiting the tower and to make their way to the port city of Galoa to in hopes find a ship that can take them to the Land of Darkness. Gahoe gives Latok a mediocre sword to use in the mean time called the buster sword as well as the Light Xak Dipole and sends the golem Pumpkinhead along to help them who still remains loyal to Gahoe and now it seems, Fray as well.
Latok thanks Gahoe for everything he has done for them and he sets out into the tower where all of the remaining golems have gone berserk. After descending several floors filled with golem enemies, traps and puzzles Latok and his party eventually make their way to the base of the tower, when all of a sudden the Necromancer appears before them demanding that they hand over the Xak Dipole that Gahoe gave them. After Latok tells the Necromancer that he will not give in to his demands, the Necromancer summons something that looks like a monster made completely of skeletal parts in a spider-like shape called Kyoferal. Latok and the rest of the party lure it into an open area to do battle with it. After a fierce battle Latok and the others manage to subdue this creature and the Necromancer dissapears telling them that next time they won't be as lucky. Pumpkinhead goes back to protect Gahoe while Latok, Fray and Pixie continue on to Goloa Bay.
Upon arriving at Goloa Bay, they enter into a midst of a powerful storm to find the town ruined and practically deserted. After exploring a bit of the town they notice that there seems to be one ship left intact still docked at the pier. At the edge of the pier they meet someone by the name of Mesuron, who tells them that he is from a crew originally from a region known as Ragnaland. However, as it turns out Mesuron turns out to be a part of Demon Knight's Storm Riders group. Demon Knight appears before them with the rest of the Storm Riders and challenges Latok in a duel to see if he is worthy of obtaining the Xak Sword back from him, however he prompty trounces Latok and leaves Yunker and Aldis to finish them off and his friends. Latok battles Yunker and is winning against him, but before he can deliver the final blow Aldis teleports the both of them away to safety. After the battle Latok finds Yunker's tail and they discuss alternate methods of obtaining a ship. After speaking with a few of the remaining villagers in the town they learn that most of the townspeople moved to a mansion owned by Admiral Leonof and perhaps he can arrange for a ship there. Latok leaves the town of Galoa and travels to Leo's Place. Upon arriving at Leo's Place he sees that Admiral Leo has arranged for several of Goloa's refugees to take up residence there and he personally welcomes Latok and his party into his home. Latok asks Leo about acquiring a ship bound for the Land of Darkness and Leo tells them that he is building a new ship, bt it is not yet ready due to a missing piece, a blue stone ore, needed to fly the ship as an airship. Continuing he explains that a shipment of the blue stone ore was arriving from Banuwa but it was attacked by demons on the sea and sunk. After a brief history lesson on how the Galoa seas tide allows for the ocean's floor to be accessible every 23 years, he tells Latok that it may be possible to retrieve the cargo of the sunken ship, but they'll most likely have to defeat the demons along the way. Latok accepts the task and Pamyusa Bermutha enters the room and Leo introduces her as his wife, pregnant with his child. She begs Leo not to go but he decides to accompany Latok and his party anyway.
Together Latok, Leo and the others explore the Goloa Bay's ocean reefs and enter the various oceanfloor caves that eventually lead to the sunkenship. Fray dons a magical suit (in the shape of a dolphin of all things) allowing her to breathe underwater and she heads for the ship in order to obtain the blue stone ore. Meanwhile, Latok and the rest discover Rune Greed who is engaged in a battle with one of the demons and they offer to help but Rune insists on disposing the demon himself. Rune finishes off the demon, calling himself Oon Ranouz, however the demon calls out for his elder brother, Zaki Ranouz referred to as the conqueror of the sea and one of the officers of Zomu Dizae. Zaki Ranouz attacks them showing up with demon reinforcements to avenge his younger brother however Latok and the rest are able to defeat him. However, just before he dies he causes a massive explosion to eliminate them all but fortunately Latok and the group manage to dive into the waters just in time before the blast. Rune explains that he set out to fight against the demons once again after hearing the news that Farland Kingdom was attacked. Fray shows up with the blue stone ore and also with many dolphins which seem to have helped her carry the ore back to shore.
After sometime, the blue stone is installed into Leo's ship, the S.S. Excavation and they all board the ship ready to make way toward the Land of Darkness. The captain of the ship, Sukan confirms this and readies the engines of the ship, however during the liftoff phase Zaki Ranouz, who apparently had not been completely destroyed in their previous battle appears on the bow of the ship chanting a form of dark magic. Latok destroys him once and for all, but not before he summons a tidal wave to hit the ship. Fortunately Sukan is skilled enough to raise the altitude of the ship in just enough time to barely clear the wave and they travel to the Land of Darkness.
Latok, Rune and Fray check out the interior of the ship where they meet Horn Ashtar who has made his way aboard the S.S. Excavation in order to follow Latok? travels. He plays a song for them on his lute when all of a sudden the ship is attacked and a fire appears on the deck. It appears that one of Leo? men, Pedro has betrayed them and has caused the fire. He asks for Latok to hand over the Xak Dipole and Latok recognizes his voice as Pedro reveals himself to be the Necromancer. The Necromancer summons a large bone dragon for Latok to fight. Using magic, Fray destroys the Necromancer while Rune and Latok defeat the monster, but is all too late and the thunder magic from the bone dragon causes the airship to be severely damaged and it crashes into the sea. Latok and his party blackout.
After sometime, Latok, Rune and Fray regain consciousness and awake in an unknown place where they meet their rescuer who turns out to be some sort of odd snail creature calling himself a kraktul. The kraktul asks for the three of them to rest awhile longer while the herbal medicine he has given them can heal them completely as their wounds were pretty severe from the crash. They oblige and return to resting while their wounds heal. Some time passes and the kraktul rushes into the room telling them that to wake up in a hurry because trolls are attacking the surrounding area. Three trolls enter the room and attack Latok and his friends. At first they are unable to do any sort of significant damage to the trolls as their regenerative abilities are too great. But thankfully, Fray uses her magic to dispose of the trolls saving kraktul. The kraktul thanks them and tells them that has not seen a group like them around before and that they look a bit like someone called Sentoru. He gives them a flute called Ashlyn? flute and asks them to play it when they reach Candle rock and it will summon the help of a bird named Ashlyn who will aid them in their quest. He also tells them that they will know when they reach Candle Rock because it is marked with a great flame that seems to burn like a candle. After thanking the kraktul for his help, they make their way towards Candle Rock.
Latok gives the flute to Fray who uses the flute to summon Ashlyn who appears before them as small parot. After a brief introduction, Ashlyn tells them that they should consult the Kalta Alliance, a resistance force led by the black dragon Stigmorok Spinnifer. Off in the distance they see this black dragon in question make a landing on the other side of a mountain across from Candle Rock. Ashlyn tells him that this the dragon's home is called Octoforge and is next to the base of the Kalta Alliance situated around Chukichaka falls. Ashlyn gives them an Elf crystal and says that they will most likely need this going forward. Latok's party arrives at the Chikuchaka falls and after some careful searching finds a path behind one of the waterfalls. Stepping through the cave and into the clearing beyond they arrive at the base of operations of the Kalta Alliance. Before they can approach, a arrows are fired and delivered right at their feet and a voice tells them that they are trespassing. This voice appears as a centaur who approaches them and checks out their story. The centaur introduces himself as Ivanhoe and apologizes to them for thinking that they were enemies and welcomes them to the Kalta Alliance. Latok's party follows Ivanhoe into the living quarters and begins to get some information from him. Ivanhoe tells them all that he has not seen humankind for a very long time and that the only humans he ever knew about in these lands originally came from the ancient city of Eltort many ages ago. He tells them that the Native Gate they seek lies in a hidden ruins that used to be protected by the elves, but lately the entire area had become overrun by trolls and demons led by one particularly powerful demon carrying a Trident. Latok thanks Ivanhoe for his information and ventures further up the mountain base and enters into the volcano crater known as Octoforge. There before them lies Stigmorok the black dragon who is extremely difficult to carry on a conversation with. After some initial complications between Rune and Stigmorok, the dragon eventually tells them all what they need to know. Stigmorok tells them that the Native Gate is currently under the control of Zomu Dizae, the commander of the armies of the Demon King Zekishis. Continuing on he tells them that it seems that Zekishis has been revived and will stop at nothing until both the human and fairy worlds have been destroyed. Unfortunately, Latok's party asks too many favors of the dragon and he blows them back through sheer force of wind to the entrance of Octoforge. After meeting with Stigmorok, Latok and his party make way for the ancient ruins.
Upon entering the ancient ruins, Fray sees a beautiful flower and decides to pick it for herself. She also makes Rune smell the fragrance of the flower and the two of them fall instantly unconscious. Latok drags them out of the room and after they both regain consciousness advises them to stay away from areas where the flowers are blooming. Rune recalls that some of the villagers spoke of black lotus flowers that the elves were immune to that they placed within the ruins to emit a sleeping toxin in the air against trespassers and that the flowers were weak against bright light. A little further down Latok finds a pedistal that looks like something should be inserted. Seeing this, he pulls out the Elf Crystal and places the jewel inside the pedistal as the ancient mechansism projects a beam of powerful light upon the black lotus flowers clearing a path for them to safely walk on. At the end of the lighted corridor, they arrive in a room that is blocked by a sealed door that they cannot seem to open. They are all about to give up and return back to the village when they are ambushed by a large amount of Trolls. They try to fight them, but it is all too much for Fray's magic to handle all at once and they get surrounded, captured and thrown into a cell. Fortunately, Pixie is able to pick the lock on the cell door and they are able to escape to Chickuchaku falls. Upon arriving at Chikuchaku, they ask Ivanhoe if there is anyway they might be able to procure magical weapons in which to fight the trolls with. Ivanhoe tells them that as legend has it, supposedly two magical weapons exist at the old human city that is located near Candle Rock. In addition he tells them that the black dragon Stigmorok also has plenty of magical treasure and weapons but is unlikely to give them up to anyone. Ivanhoe tells them that Latok's friends are okay as Leo has been spotted at the alliance base gathering parts from the dwarven mines in which to fix their broken airship. He also tells them to search for the Troll Key so that they may have access to the village grounds where the Trolls reside which also happens to be where the Native Gate lies. Latok and his party return to Candle Rock and summon Ashlyn again who tells them that the last of the kings of the ancient human city of Eltort were twins and each had a strong magical blade that normal men could not use. At the end of their civilization, the twin kings buried the two swords in the city gate to cause the city to bury itself deep within the forest that surrounded it. As Ashlyn continues, she says that the very location of Candle Rock marks the reminants of the city gate and the flame that never dies is actually the two swords of the twin kings that protect Candle Rock from trolls making it impossible for them to enter. Ashlyn gives them a key to enter one of the nearby sealed doors and instructs them to utter the names of the twin swords, Earth Shaker and Wind Saber, however to be mindful that only a person worthy enough will be able to wield the blades. Latok and Rune make their way up to where the the flame is, call out the names of the two swords and retrieve them. Ashlyn congratulates them and reverts to her natural elven form, that of a silver-haired female elf. She tells them that many elves still remain in their animal forms to keep watch over the area of their ancestry and protect the twin king's swords. In addition Ashlyn says that she and the other elves plan to join the Kalta Alliance to help fight against the demons. Ashlyn also tells them that the leader of the trolls in the ancient ruins holds the key to entering the innermost part of the ruins where the Native Gate lies.
Latok and his party return to the spot where the troll got the best of them and defeat them this time around using their newly acquired magical swords making short work of them and obtain the troll key needed to open the sealed door. They proceed through the door and after some puzzle solving they enter into a clearing filled with powerful demons. Eventually Latok arrives in the chamber where Zomu Dizae, The General of the Demon Army Invasion awaits them. Shiki Adnis and Bel Adnis, two naga-ish serpent guards of Zomu Dizae protect him while sending a horde of lesser demons to dispose of Latok, Rune and Fray, but are met with a quick defeat. As the Adnis sisters prepare to enter the fight next, Dizae holds them back telling them that they are no match for the Gods'Descendents who defeated Zemu Badu, and Zamu Gospel and tells them to leave while he deals with them personally. Latok charges Dizae but is thrown back through sheer overwhelming power. Rune also attempts to attack Dizae alone but he too is prompty defeated. Latok and Rune stand up and decided to charge Dizae together this time and that if they fight together, nothing should be able to stop them. The battle with Zomu Dizae is a trying one in that Dizae has many forms, first he summons the help of the ancient demon Gazzel of whom Latok and Rune defeated in their last adventure (The Tower of Gazzel) and uses it as a mount. They are able to kill Gazzel one last time and they fight Dizae on foot, and then Dizae removes various weighted armour pieces designed to train his abilities to suceed his body's limitations on speed and power, but in the end he is defeated. Dizae tells them that he has no regrets losing to the power of Duel's descendents as it was an honor to fight them, however he tells them that the demon army has conquered over half of the human world's kingdoms and it is only a matter of time before the rest fall. Latok tells him that if he has to fight every last one of them, he and the rest of humanity will rise up to defeat them.
Beyond Dizae lies the Native Gate and as they approach, Latok uses the power of the Xak Dipole that Gahoe gave to them to enter the gate expecting that they will arrive in the demon world on the other side. Instead, the Xak Dipoletakes them to Oceanity, the world of Faeries. Upon arriving, Pixie changes form and collapses and they are welcomed by Iythphante, a particularly powerful looking faerie with wings far greater in size than that of Pixie who says she has been expecting them. They step through a portal leading them to Oceanity's castle. There they learn that Pixie was originally sent by Iythphante to the human world of Xak to lend service to the King of Wavis. They also learn of the great spirit Espinoza who watchs over their world and Iythphante is a medium of Espinoza's power. Latok and his party make their way to Iythphante's chamber where she tells them that Pixie will be fine and the change in her form was caused by a rapid increase of Oceanity's power, that of mind, magic and force. Apparently each of the three worlds has a unique form of magical power attached to them which cancel out the magical power of specific other worlds and vise versa. She explains that Faeries cannot go to the world of demons, yet demons cannot come to Oceanity as they will become mortal and thus be able to be destroyed quite easily. However, Xak, the world of humans is different allowing the magical powers of both worlds to flow into it making it possible for both fairies and demons to enter it and use their home world's unique forms of magic. Latok asks Iythphante about the Demon King Zekishis and she tells them that once the world and the protection of the gods were as one and many races were prosperous back in those times. However, the God of Fate, Teimerias, was seen from beyond the time when the gods were destroyed. That is the time when many uprisings occured between the gods and the gods became divided amongst each other. Those that were dedicated to Fate and those who opposed it. At that time, Zekishis and the other demons appeared. Another view she explains, is that Zekishis is a form of the gods that opposed Fate. The demons attacked the gods causing destruction and confusion. The gods and faeries along with other races fought against Zekishis and the invading demon armies. To oppose the demons, the gods and their armies confined themselves to the Holy City of Eltort and there lied the Gate of No Return. This gate sent soldiers everyday to a battlefield from which they could never return. The war went on forever and even the demons became tired of fighting. It was then that the gods shook the world with the last of their power dividing it into three parts. This came to be known as the "Separation of the Three Worlds". Zekishis and the demons were sealed in their own region of the world while the gods fell and lost their power. This era became known as the War of Sealing.
Iythphante tells Latok that by using the Xak Dipole of Light they were able to enter Oceanity, however to enter the demon world they will need a Xak Dipoleof a different color. She says that the black dragon on Xak may have what they need but may only give it up if Latok and the others can challenge and defeat the dragon in a Duel. Incidentally as it turns out, Iythphante and the dragon are in love, but she says that she cannot force Stigmorok to help them. Continuing on with the information she wishes to provide Latok and Rune, she tells them that she knows about the Demon Knight they have run into who also seems to be searching for the Xak Dipoles. Iythphante tells them that Demon Knight is also on a quest to defeat the demons, however power corrupts and he has lost a great deal of his mind and may have to be stopped before it is too late. Only a Duel Knight would be strong enough and even have a chance to defeat him in battle and asks Latok if he finds it strange that this Demon Knight would be able to wield the Xak Sword if he was not of Duel's lineage... From the obvious clues and information gathered from Iythphante, Latok discovers that his father is that of Demon Knight and that his father is not dead as he had previously been told by Zeke Bordeaux of Banuwa Village (Xak II). Iythphante tells Latok that his father, Dolk Kart was so consumed by guilt after being forced to revive Zemu Badu (Xak I) that when Iythphante first met him, he was searching for a place to die. To defeat Zekishis he threw away the values he once had as Dolk Kart and broke laws in order to achieve his ultimate goal. Latok makes a vow to kill Zekishis to protect the world and save his father. Before they leave, Iythphante presents them with a bundle of spirit tree seeds in which she explains came from a tree from when the world was still whole. She instructs them to plant them in the soil in the demon world so that they will be able to use the power of Xak there and also be able to recover their vitality.
As Latok and his party set out to return to the world of Xak, Pixie informs Latok that she intends to stay behind due to fatigue caused by entering into the world of Oceanity. She fears that she will only slow the group down. Latok thanks her for helping him make it this far and enters the gate to Xak. Latok and the others make their way back to the black dragon Stigmorok and rudely challenge him to a duel for the Xak Dipole they need. The enraged dragon accepts their proposal and a battle commences. Using the Dragon Ring, Latok summons and dons his faithful Blue Dragon (From Xak I, II) and battles Stigmorok in the sky. Stigmorok loses and tells them to save his dignity and end his life, however Latok refuses to kill him telling him that out of respect to Iythphante's interests and the fact that he is still needed in the war against the demons, he will spare his life. Latok takes the Xak Dipole of Darkness he needs and prepares to enter the demon world of Zekesis. Before departing Fray tells Latok that she also intends to stay behind since she won't be able to use her magical talents in the demon world and fears that she, like Pixie, will only slow them down. Fray also tells Latok that she has feelings for him and hugs him telling him to promise to make it back to her alive. Latok tells Fray that he doesn't know how to respond feelings just yet, but promises to make it back safely.
As Latok and Rune enter the previous chamber where the battle with Zomu Dizae took place, they have yet another encounter with the Necromancer who has been waiting for them. He tells them to either give them the two Xak Duples or he will destroy them both and then take them. They destroy the Necromancer this time around fairly easily and think they've seen the last of the Necromancer. Latok and Rune make a pact to destroy Zekishis once and for all and step through the Native Gate on into the demon world. A scene shows Demon Knight leading his entire group of Storm Mercenaries to the front gate of the demon's stronghold guarded by two demons, Ah Nale and Un Nale. They introduce themselves as the gatekeepers and start making threats and such toward Demon Knight's party. Before they even finish their dialogue, Demon Knight orders Ardis to open the gate using her magic. She opens it without difficulty and most of the mercenaries get close to entering when the demons see right through their tactics and slaughter most of the normal lesser-skilled soldiers. Ah Nale and Un Nale are amazed that Ardis can not only use magic in their world, but she was able to avoid their attack. Sunaga prepares for the next attack showing a specific battle stance indicating that he is using a fighting style of that of a knight of Ragnaland and a force to be reckoned with. The two demons recognize this style as being called the Klama style and are impressed to do battle with someone such as Sunaga. A battle engages and the scene switches to that of Latok and Rune who have just entered the demon realm. In this next room they plant one of the seedlings that Iythphante gave to them and it blooms into a rainbow colored tree allowing them to gain several powerful healing items. They equip themselves appropriately and journey on ahead into the next room. After battling with several powerful lesser demons, Latok and Rune make their way to the front gate where Sunaga is has just finished battling with the two demons Ah Nale and Un Nale, who now look to be dead on the ground next to him. Sunaga turns around and tells them that he will not allow them to disrupt Demon Knight's plans and he raises his sword against them. However, as Sunaga does this the two gatekeepers appear behind him and merge into a single demon entity known as Nib Nale. When they do this merge they absorb Sunaga as part of the newly created body as a means of taking him down with them. Sunaga struggles to try and cut himself free of the demon but it is of no use and he just ends up cutting himself instead. As Nib Nale mocks him and is about to start fighting against Latok and Rune, Sunaga uses the last of his strength to sever Nib Nale's head and together with the remaining body dalls off the edge of a nearby cliff into the jagged rocks below. Latok retrieves Sunga's sword, the Agato Daimon and equips it as he heads inside the demon stronghold with Rune. A next scene shows Demon Knight and the remainder of his followers continuing on into the stronghold where their path is impeded by yet another demon, this time a powerful sorcerer cloaked in a stark blue robe. Ardis says that she'll stay behind to handle the sorcerer while Demon Knight continues on. As it turns out, the reason why Ardis' magic appears to be so strong is directly due to the fact that the is the daughter of this very sorcerer. A battle commences between them and Latok and Rune make more progress throught the demon infested dungeons as they jump from moving platforms and make their way to a lever activating a door to lower allowing them to jump to the other side. Latok and Rune make their way into the chamber where Ardis fought with the blue sorcerer. Even though she appears wounded, she tells them both to go on ahead without her and not to worry and that she'll be fine. Just as they leave she says her farewells to her father and mother and draws her final breath as the last of her life blood dissapears from her body. The following scene shows Demon Knight's group encountering Shiki Adnis and Bel Adnis, Zomu Dizae's serpent bodyguards from before. Mesuron and Yunker stay behind to battle them allowing Demon Knight to continue and not waste any time. Latok and Rune make their way through another section of the stronghold and arrive on scene with Mesuron and Yunker that are currently engaged in a battle with several demons including Shiki and Bel Adnis. They turn their attention to Latok and Rune telling them that they are too late and that Demon Knight as most likely already made it to Zekishis by now. Rune stays behind to deal with the demons telling Latok to hurry up and save his father.
Latok finally catches up with his father who lands the final blow against the Necromancer just in time to turn around and see a glimpse of Latok who calls out to him. Just as Demon Knight has turned his back on the Necromancer does he revive himself and appear behind Demon Knight delivering a mortal wound to him. Laughing, the Necromancer tells Demon Knight that even though he threw away his life to become the Demon Knight, he shows his weakness by still having feelings for his son. As the Necromancer enjoys his monologue, Demon Knight throws the Xak sword at a nearby demonic artifact, breaking the seal on it and releasing the Necromancer's spirit to return back to him so that he can be killed once and for all. Enraged, the Necromancer delivers yet another mortal blow to the Demon Knight who staggers about bleeding profusely. The merging of the Necromancer's spirit reveals his true form and he tells Latok and Dolk Kart that he will send them both to hell. An epic battle commences between Latok and the Necromancer for one last battle between them. Demon Knight tells Latok to use the Xak Sword and with the last of his power he makes the Xak Sword return to Latok. Latok takes hold of the legendary Xak Sword once again and charges into battle with the Necromancer delivering the final blow. The Necromancer begs for his life and makes excuses to Latok for all the wrong doings he has been doing all of this time telling him that he has not had any choice in the matter. Latok refuses to do anything that will help him and tells him that he deserves to die just like he is as the Necromancer ages rapidly crumbling to dust becoming one with the very death he once embraced.
Latok kneels down by his father's side and removes the Demon Knight helmet revealing an aged and worn man underneith. Dolk Kart asks Latok for forgiveness and tells Latok that he must win against Zekeshis to save everyone and to survive so that he take care of his mother after everything is over. With his final words, Dolk Kart dies in his son's arms. Latok shouts that he will avenge his father's death by killing Zekishis and equips his father's armour which consequently is Duel's original armour and proceeds to the final battle.
After battling through many more hordes of demons Latok makes his way to absolute depths of Zekesis where he finds the Maelstrom Core, a deep place where only gods could enter forbidding evil to venture. In other words, this was the place that everything originated from, where the gods were born. The Xak sword speaks to Latok telling him that he does not honestly know if Latok can truly beat Zekishis since it is a being whose very form changes with time as Zekishis has now become a god of evil in the purest of forms. Having given up his flesh he's been the only god for quite some time. The Xak sword tells Latok that he cannot kill a god this powerful, but he can cut off his future by cutting the ring of time allowing for a beginning and an end to exist for the present and future making it so that Zekishis can only exist in the past. The sword also tells him that he must be fooled by hate and anger because if he were to defeat Zekishis and entrapped by those thoughts, Latok will simply take his place as the next Zekishis. Continuing, the Xak Sword tells Latok that they have become great soldiers of worth and together they have to risk everything to accomplish the final task and together, sword in hand, Latok enters the vortex of the Maelstrom Core.
Latok appears before a great black sun with a giant singular eye and they enter inside it to find an odd looking pillar containing the essence of Zekishis. Latok calls out for Zekishis challenging him and Zekishis awakens thinking that Latok is the original war god Duel. Latok commences the final battle as he flies toward Zekishis cutting off his life supports one by one and dodging his attacks as he makes way for Zekishis' true form, which is that of an angelic god. After a fierce duel between them, Zekeshis succumbs to the Xak Sword's power and that of Latok and Duel and the battle ends in Zekishis' defeat.
After the battle Iythphante appears before Latok telling him that she always knew he could defeat Zekeshis and save the world. Latok asks where he is and the Xak Sword tells him that he is a the seal that connects each of the three worlds by a chain. Iythphante tells him that the chains connect to all living things in each world and now that Zekishis, the protector of the demon world's chain has been defeated, the chain holding Zekesis will break apart allowing the two remaining worlds to become one. She tells Latok that she is the protector of Oceanity, the faerie world and the Jin' of the Xak Sword is the protector of Xak, the human world. Both Iythphante and the Jin' of the Xak Sword ask for Latok to break the remaning chains so that the world can be born whole again. Latok refuses at first, but they tell him that he has no choice to choose not to do something so important as this. Latok takes hold of the Xak Sword one last time and cuts through the remaining chains as Iythphante and the Jin' of the Xak Sword dissapear. The spirits of all three protectors appear to Latok once more as the Xak Dipoles and tell Latok to cut his own path through the future he has now made for the world as they say their final farewells to him.
With some help, Pixie becomes a medium of the great spirit Espinoza, the source of Iythphante's power and she is able to find Latok and bring him back to the world of Xak, now one whole world. A scene shows several of the survivors of the assault on Zekesis, Rune Greed, Mesuron and Yunker meeting up with Fray and Admiral Leonov as they question whether or not Latok may still be alive. Fray becomes worried over Latok's plight when Latok arrives relieving her worries as he reunites with his friends and loved ones and returns to Fearless Village to explains the events to his mother and Elise and live out the rest of his life in peace. Fray accompanies Latok to his home village and Latok invites her inside as they prepare for a celebratory feast. The story of Xak III the Eternal Recurrence comes to a closing with Horn Ashtar in a tavern at an unknown location when a barmaid asks him if he wouldn't mind singing something heroic. Horn smiles and tell her that he knows of one story that would be perfect to sing about...
