Mage Kane An apprentice hobbit mage of the elven sorcerer running the magic shop in the underground hobbit village of Nemnu. Kane had accidently turned himself into a ghost through using magic incorrectly at the Tower of Zeglard. After Latok saves him by dispeling the magic he later gives Latok a pet named Rabby that comes in very handy for Latok in his journey. |
Yui Her brother died trying to fight the demons in Zeglard Tower, but his spirit could not find peace until it could deliver a final message to his sister Yui. After Latok tells Yui about what happened to her brother, the brother's spirit is finally able to move on leaving behind a broadsword for Latok to use in his fight against the Necromancer's creations and doplegangers. |

Rachael When Latok finds Rachael and the remaining human survivors held up in a cavern in the Land of Fire, she explains that her baby brother has come down with a fever and needs medicine or he'll die. Her father had gone to the Fortress of Flame to look for medicine there. Latok later delivers the medicine from her father in order to save the child. |
Rachael's Father Rachael's father had gone to the Fortress of Flame to look for medicine there for his infant son. Latok meets him during an event in the fortress that requires Rachael's father to stay behind while Latok delivers the medicine to Rachael to save the child. It is unknown what happens to him as he does not appear when Latok returns to the fortress, but it is assumed that he traded his life in staying behind so that his son could live. |
Gnome Family A family of gnomes living peacefully inside a treasure chest in Zeglard Tower when Latok happens to come by and open the lid of the chest which acts as the roof of their house. After reuniting the family with their missing daughter who went off to play somewhere in the tower, they reward Latok with a Scroll of Dispel Magic. I personally found this chest/family to be a very creative and original idea in Xak I, which is why I've included them in the character list. |
Villains
Zemu Badu, the Dark One An ancient and very powerful demon that raided the human world of Xak long after the ancient gods devided the world. Duel, the God of War managed to single-handedly defeat Badu and seal his soul within a thick wall of ice in an isolated region of Bazuud. Perhaps what made Badu so powerful was his ability to use the dark magic of Coercion within the world of Xak in order to control the minds of humans and demons alike to do his every bidding. Badu is revived at the start of the first Xak game and awaits Latok at the end of his adventure. Zemu Badu is one of the original three demons to succeed the Demon King Zekishis. |
Zuun An officer of the demon army working under Zemu Badu. Originally he terrorized the miners of the village of Normana and as a last resort, the villagers found a way to drive him back into the inner depths of the underground passageway and imprisoned him in a magical holding cell. As a precautionary measure, they caused a cave-in in order to seal the entrance to the holding cell. The villagers warn Latok about a demon named Zuun who lives in the caverns near Normana. When Latok finally finds a way to enter the sealed cave where the holding cell lies, Zuun takes the form of a human and asks Latok to set him free. After Latok agrees to set him free, the man introduces himself as Zuun and teleports to Normana village. After Latok arrives in Normana village he finds that Zuun has transformed into the form of a demon and is attacking the villagers. When Latok approaches him, he thanks Latok for releasing him and asks him if he would like to join him and crush the Kingdom of Wavis. Latok can decide either way. |

Sorcerer Amadok A powerful sorcerer who seeked to become even more powerful by any means necessary. In order to do this, he researched and harnessed the power of dark magic, or that used by the demon world of Zekisis. After securing a way to prolong his life for centuries by transferring his spirit to new host bodies over time, he created the flying magical fortess of Ku Or to use as a base of operations while he continued his research into summoning the power of ancient demons and netherworld gods. He was the one who prophecized about the coming of Zamu Gospel and the rising of the red moon when the black and white treasures were gathered by the demons. When Fray, Mill and Lutok Hart find him he is just about to summon the the dark power of Badu once more to absorb the essence of the dark one that very well could possibly make him stronger than any demon in the world of Zekisis could ever hope to be... However his plan backfires when Mill Gerald finds a way to sabotage his ritual and ultimately destroy him. However his spirit presses on and finds a way to merge with the dark one anyhow for one final battle with Fray and after Fray defeats him, his spirit is sent to the depths of the netherworld for all time. |

Zamu Gospel, the Demon Army Commander Another very powerful demon, possibly even more powerful in terms of sheer strength than that of Badu. Zamu Gospel was the commander of the demon army invasion during the war with the ancient gods when he was sealed away in the demon world of Zekesis. However, it was prophecised that he would return when the black and white treasures were gathered by the demons and the red moon rose by the Sorcerer Amadok. Through this prophecy, Zamu Gospel's supporters work toward making it come true so that Gospel will once again be able to descend upon the human world of Xak and lead an invincible demon army invasion under the red moon. Latok fights against Gospel at the end of Xak II: Rising of the Redmoon. Zamu Gospel is the second of the original three demons to succeed the Demon King Zekishis. (Unlike many of the other demons, Gospel has a giant living, demon armour suit that he uses in battle similar to Escaflowne, for those familiar with that anime.) |

The Necromancer (Robu) The Necromancer is a reaccuring villain in the Xak series games that is able to control the undead, including the bodies of the deceased who were killed in battle fighting against the demons. He seems to owe his allegiance to whoever or whichever demon seems to be the most powerful at the time and toys around with Latok. In the first game, he simply tests Latok's strength by summoning a horde of undead for Latok to deal with and after Badu is destroyed, he informs Zamu Gospel of Latok Kart's rising power. In Xak II, he is one of Zamu Gospel's four most trusted supporters and takes the position as the Northern Demonlord guarding the seal to Zekesis of Death Mountain, where Zamu Gospel will arrive. The Necromancer is responsible for attacking Banuwa village while Latok is busy questing in Castle Caulyan and abducting Shana Tautook, needed for the dark ritual. Latok fights against the Necromancer and in the end the Necromancer is thought to have been destroyed, but comes back again later in the series. |
Obu Bogoreous Another one of Zamu Gospel's supporters and the Eastern Demonlord takes position over the Eastern forests of Banuwa village as the Eastern Demonlord. He and his brother, Bigoreous, have successfully gathered a small army comprised of demons and native forest goblin tribes to guard the sleeping white treasure, that of Mune Tautook for use in Gospel's ritual. |
Ebu Fyl One of Zamu Gospel's supporters acting as the Western Demonlord, who has occupied her demon forces deep within the crystal caverns of the Crystal Valley mines. Many of Banuwa village's miners, sailors and children who were taken by the demons were brought to Ebu Fyl at the bottom level of the mines where she turned them all into crystal statues of which she explains captures their beauty forever. Their purpose for occupying the mines is apparently to gather and search for a particular stone of a blueish hue in using it as a powerful magical medium during the planned ritual for Gospel. |

Abu Baal (Jerome Vordis) Jerome Vordis was the first mate of Captain Ray Deal aboard a ship called the Sinary. Vordis, Ray and his crew had heard about a powerful artifact known as the "Wind Sword" that lay hidden somewhere in Castle Caulyan. Jerome Vordis was able to find the sword first, but soon realized that the power contained in this sword was much too powerful for Jerome's will and spirit to control and thus it summoned Abu Baal, a demon skilled in possessing and corrupting the minds of human victims. Baal consumed Jerome and Jerome became Abu Baal completely and had full control over the Wind Sword. Using this new incredible power he took over Castle Caulyan and forced the engineers of the castle to design specialized mechanical death traps and hidden passageways throughout the castle in case anyone tried to come take the Wind Sword from him. By the time Latok reaches him, Baal feels that he is just as powerful as Gospel and that he may very well be able to become a greater demon than Gospel himself using the Wind Sword's power. |
Zegraya A powerful demon who was sent by the General of the Demon Army of Zekesis, Zomu Deizae, to revive the ancient demon Gazzel in the tower where he was sealed and destroy Duel's descendents, Latok Kart and Rune Greed by any means necessary. He has two subordinates, Gill Berzes and Al Acrila who assist him with this goal. In order to secure victory, Zegraya comes up with a plan to lure Latok Kart and Rune Greed into the tower and creates a shapechanger demon who can turn into the likeness of anyone, including Latok Kart himself. |
Gazzel/Zegraya Eventually after the battle with Latok and Rune, Zegraya is able to successfully complete the steps of the ritual that revive the power of the ancient demon Gazzel. Gazzel and the weakened Zegraya merge into one being for the final battle. During the course of Xak III, Demon General Zomu Dizae summons Gazzel once again to use as a mount as he fights with Latok and Rune. |
Gill Berzes Three years prior to the events that happen in Tower of Gazzel, Rune Greed had a run in with Gill Berzes. At the end of the battle Berzes was wounded in his right-eye. Still holding a grudge against Rune, he and Al Acrila kidnapped Rune's family and brought them to the Tower of Gazzel where they would be used as bait to lure Rune into a trap. |
Al Acrila Three years prior to the events that happen in Tower of Gazzel, Rune Greed had a run in with Al Acrila. Still holding a grudge against Rune, she and Gill Berzes kidnapped Rune's family and brought them to the Tower of Gazzel where they would be used as bait to lure Rune into a trap. She refers to herself as the "Water Queen" and is a master of controlling the element of water. |
Shapechanger A creation from the demon Zegraya. Zegraya thought that they would stand a better chance against the might of Latok Kart and Rune Greed if they had a being that could change into the exact likeness of any of Latok's friends and even Latok himself, giving him an edge as Latok Kart's double. The shapechanger causes a bit of problems for Latok and his friends and leads them into many traps. When Latok finally fights the shapechanger he fights a mirror image of himself who has the exact same moves and techniques. |

Zomu Dizae, The Demon Army General The third most powerful demon of the original three demons to succeed the Demon King Zekishis. He has most of the demons of Zekesis into the world of Xak by means of the Gate of No Return artifact. Under his leadership, over half of the human cities and kingdoms have been conquered by the demon ivasion forces. When Latok and Rune fight with him, he shows them how powerful he is by illustrating that he can summon Gazzel (An extremely powerful demon from an earlier Xak game) at whim and using it as a mount. |

Ah Nale Along with his brother, Un Nale, they are known as the Gate Keepers of Zekesis. Their duty is to guard the gate of the Demon Stronghold of Zekesis where the Demon King Zekishis slumbers. The Blue Sorcerer A mysterious and powerful sorcerer who serves as a formidable opponent during the endgame dungeon sequences as a enemy that Demon Knight's Storm Mercernaries have to deal with. As it turns out one of the Storm Mercenaries, the sorcerer Ardis happens to be the daughter of this Blue Sorcerer explaining that she is the product of demon heritage and thus able to use powerful magic within the demon world Zekesis. |
Demon King Zekishis Often thought of as the "First Demon" who originally led the demon armies into the world to assault the ancient gods in the ages before the world was split up into three parts. As the history of the gods is explained to Latok through Iythphante, she tells them that it is possible that a particular faction of waring gods that did not agree with the God of Fate, Teimerias became the entity known as Zekishis. Ultimately, Zekishis is the most powerful demon and the last of the gods still alive in the world eternally bound to his own timestreamed plane of existence. By killing Zekishis and severing his ties to "Present" and "Future" and keeping his existence only in the "Past", this would destroy the entire demon race. |
